Mr Liam Convie is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with special interests in Colorectal Cancers, diverticular disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
Mr Convie qualified from Queen’s University Belfast in 2011 having achieved distinctions in every phase of the undergraduate medical programme and winning the Magrath Medal in surgery.
He completed core and higher surgical training in Northern Ireland before undertaking the prestigious Overseas Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Queensland, Australia. His overseas experience has provided him with skills in the full range of laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery as well as pelvic exenteration for patients with locally advanced and recurrent pelvic cancers.
Mr. Convie is fully trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery and has a particular interest in treating patients with colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis and perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures.
Having returned to the UK he was appointed as a consultant general and colorectal surgeon at the Ulster Hospital Dundonald.
Mr Convie welcomes all general surgical referrals and in particular for conditions relating to gastrointestinal and perianal conditions like perianal pain, bleeding, change in bowel habit (constipation/diarrhoea), incontinence and abdominal pain.
He has a keen interest in teaching and training future surgeons. He has a master’s degree in medical education and is faculty on several national surgical training courses. Mr. Convie has several research interests and was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Queen’s University Belfast for his work investigating informed consent for surgery.
