Our History
The late Mr Gavin Boyd, consultant Gynecologist together with a committee of medical professions and business people identified the need for a small private hospital in Belfast in the early 1970’s.
The Ulster Independent Clinic opened its doors in 1979 and it quickly set new standards for independent healthcare and private hospitals in Northern Ireland.
Over 30 years later, thanks to continuous development and investment in services and our staff, the Ulster Independent Clinic is proud to still be the principal provider of private healthcare in the region.
The development of an x-ray department incorporating one of the only privately operated MRI scanners in Northern Ireland and a fully equipped, modern Theatre and Recovery complex ensures that the Ulster Independent Clinic offers the most comprehensive range of services and procedures available privately.
The Ulster Independent Clinic is proud of its charitable status that guarantees that any surplus profits that are made are reinvested in full in the continual development of the hospital.
The hospital is governed by a Board of Directors who give their time voluntarily to ensure that the clinic continues to provide patient choice and a valuable service to healthcare sector in Northern Ireland in the 21st century.
