Dr Allen qualified from Queen’s University Medical School in 1998 and has trained in anaesthesia and critical care in Northern Ireland and England. He has received the QUB Upjohn Pathology prize, the RCSI college medal, the RCSI Brophy medal and the IBICM medal. He has worked extensively in orthopaedic anaesthesia including complex hip and knee replacement, revision surgery, bone tumour reconstruction surgery, and day case hip and knee replacement. Dr Allen also has extensive experience in critical care, particularly following major abdominal and thoracic cancer surgery as well as in the Nightingale unit during the Covid pandemic.
